Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma were left in shock after a confusing DRS overturn in the Sri Lankan innings in the Lucknow T20I.
India had put up a massive total of 199 on board powered by half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, and Sri Lanka’s run chase had begun in uncertain fashion with Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissing both openers. Charith Asalanka and Janith Liyanage joined hands to revive the innings from 15/2 when India looked to tempt Asalanka with the leg-spinner in the final powerplay over.
Known as someone who loves to take on the leggie, Asalanka tried to take Yuzvendra Chahal on in the final over of the powerplay and nearly found the deep mid-wicket fielder with his slog sweep. Mistiming the shot entirely, Asalanka didn’t get the elevation or distance and ended up hitting it straight to Shreyas Iyer in the deep.
However, the fielder put down the catch to give Asalanka a life. Two balls later, though, Chahal struck again, hitting Asalanka on the pads with one that didn’t quite turn as much as the leftie expected. The on-field umpire upheld the appeal of the Indians but Asalanka reviewed the call.
Multiple replays revealed that the ball had probably missed the bat by a bit, although the Snickometer almost always shows a very small spike when passing even near the bat. The spike was hardly convincing and it seemed like India had another wicket in the bag. But the third umpire ruled it not out, citing there was an edge on the bat.
A shocked Rohit Sharma was seen wagging his finger and laughing in disbelief while head coach Rahul Dravid made no attempts to hide his shock, although he managed to maintain a smile all the while.

Asalanka had been a thorn in India’s flesh last year too when India played a bilateral series in Sri Lanka. An up and coming talented youngster, the left-hander has played some cracking knocks at international level already.
