Abdul Samad has been plying his trade for Jammu and Kashmir in India’s domestic cricket for a couple of seasons. He forayed into the domestic arena as a teenager and is deemed to have a bright future in the offing. After impressive for his state team across various tournaments, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked him in the auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
From there on, he has played 23 matches in which he has scored 222 runs at an average of 15.86. His strike-rate of 146.05 shows that he can play the big shots at will and is a hard-hitter of the cricket ball. Samad has also picked up two wickets with his leg-spin bowling. The Sunrisers seemed to have underused him as he has bowled only eight overs across two seasons.
The youngster is currently getting set for the 2022 edition of the IPL, which is set to get underway on March 26. Samad has already hit the nets and has been attempting quite a few audacious strokes during practice. The official Twitter handle of the Sunrisers uploaded a clip where he can be seen playing a scoop shot.
The bowler bowled a full-length delivery outside the off-stump and Samad reverse scooped the ball over the third man region. Prior to that he played one lofted shot over the long-off region after which he carted one through the off-side. Samad ended with the scoop shot.
Watch it till the end. It’s worth it

The Sunrisers had a lacklustre season last time around as they finished at the bottom of the points table. The Orange Army also sacked David Warner and appointed New Zealand’s Kane Williamson as their skipper. Prior to the mega auction that took place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru, SRH threw up a few surprises.
They released the likes of Warner, Jason Holder and Rashid Khan. Instead, they retained Williamson, fast bowler Umran Malik and Samad. Malik played a handful of games in the previous edition after coming in as a replacement for T. Natarajan. Samad, in the meantime, will earn INR 4 crore next season as compared to INR 20 lakhs in the first two seasons.
