Brett Lee still has it in him. The champion Australian fast-bowler rolled back the clock in the Legends League Cricket on Thursday (January 27) night. Playing for World Giants against the Indian Maharajas, Lee successfully defended 7 runs off the final over.

The 45-year-old gave a befitting example of his class and pedigree as he ran up to bowl with the equation tilted in favour of the Maharajas and pulled the game in favour of the Giants.

With the scoreboard reading 8 needed off the last 6 balls, Brett Lee gave away only two runs off his entire over and clinched victory for the Giants when they would’ve feared a defeat in Oman.

Brett Lee made fans reminisce of his glory days with an exhibition of high-class death-bowling.

Brett Lee began the over with a wide delivery outside left-hander Irfan Pathan’s off-stump. But the pacer made amends with his first legal ball of the over, getting Irfan out caught at mid-off after inducing a miscued six-attempt off his full-length slower ball.

Having gained momentum from there, Lee forced another miscued six-attempt. This time, the batter was Rajat Bhatia, who was nearly hauled at sweeper cover but fielder Morne Morkel dropped the catch. The drop allowed the batting team to run across for a single, which meant Aavishkar Salvi got on strike.

This was a great opportunity for Brett Lee to sneak in a few tight balls and as it happened, the pacer delivered two successive dot balls. Executing his yorker nicely, Lee got two dot balls past Salvi’s bat.

Off the next ball as well, Salvi missed Lee’s yorker. Seeing an opportunity to run a bye and bring Bhatia back on strike, Salvi sprinted towards the other end. But his partner was found short at the batting crease.

From there, the defeat for Maharajas was imminent. They required a maximum off the final delivery, which their No.9 Amit Bhandari found too difficult to execute against Lee’s wide yorker outside the off-stump.

Brett Lee, one of Australia’s finest-ever pacer, played 76 Tests, 221 ODIs and 25 T20Is, taking over 700 international wickets and was Australia’s World Cup and Champions Trophy hero in 2003 and 2009, respectively.
