Pakistan’s bright young wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan was at his very best in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Thursday (February 3).
Playing for Islamabad United, the aggressive right-hand batter smashed an important 65 off 35 deliveries. Son of former Pakistan keeper Moin Khan, Azam’s blistering knock included 2 fours and 6 sixes.
The big-built powerhitter sent the ball to all parts of the National Stadium in Karachi to help United post a gigantic score of 229/4 in their allotted 20 overs. He played an important role in his team’s victory by 43 runs.

Azam Khan recorded one of the biggest sixes seen in PSL history.
Azam Khan’s characteristic knock featured breathtaking strokeplay as he recorded as many as six maximums to end with an individual strike-rate of 185.71.
Among those sixes, one could well go down as one of the biggest ever recorded in not just the PSL but T20 history. The batter scaled the 107-metre mark with one of his gigantic sixes.
This one arrived off the fifth ball of the 13th over in the United innings. Facing Gladiators’ left-arm pacer James Faulkner from the ‘over-the-wicket’ angle, Azam got one right in the slot and sent it sailing over the roof in the deep mid-wicket region.

Faulkner missed the mark with his back of the hand slower ball as Azam Khan got underneath the delivery and dispatched it outside the National Stadium in Karachi.
The cracking sound off the bat was testament to how cleanly the batter had hit this delivery, with the belligerent shot leaving the fans and the commentators absolutely mesmerised.
On the day, United also had their senior pros Paul Stirling and Colin Munro scoring runs. But the innings from Azam Khan would’ve especially pleased them. The 23-year-old batter showcased what a promising talent he is by taking the game away from Gladiators.
