India vs Australia: David Warner might not feature in the Boxing Day Test

David Warner was supposed to make a comeback for the India vs Australia second Test match in Melbourne, but now if reports are to be believed that is not a confirmed proposition.

David Warner suffered a groin injury in the second ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground and was ruled out of the subsequent games against India, including the first Test in Adelaide. Joe Burns and Matthew Wade partnered at the top of the order in Warner’s absence and now they are, in all probability, will continue with reports in ESPN Cricinfo suggesting that Warner is unlikely to be fit for the second Test.

The New South Wales man has gone through an extensive rehabilitation program, which has included using an oxygen chamber, but the injury will need some time to go away completely.

“Hopefully I can get up and about and start running at a higher tempo,” Warner had said earlier this week but this has come as the latest improvement in the issue.

“I managed to get up to 14 kilometers an hour so I’ve got to work towards a max of 26 to 30 kilometers an hour by next week. If I can run between wickets and move laterally and do some ground fielding by the end of next week, I should be ready to go. Fingers are crossed.”

Australia keep fingers crossed for David Warner

As a matter of fact, Will Pucovski has already been ruled out from the second Test with a concussion, so Australia will have a little option with them. Will they drop Cameron Green and insert Matthew Wade in the middle-order to ask Marcus Harris to open is a question they are pondering on. That will give some sleepless nights to the team management as they keep their fingers crossed for the return of their talismanic opener.
