‘Put the phone on Airplane Mode’- Virender Sehwag’s advice to Ravindra Jadeja amid tough IPL 2022 season for CSK

Virender Sehwag advises CSK captain Jadeja to not focus on the outside world's reaction to the side's poor start in IPL 2022.

Former Indian Batter Virender Sehwag has opened up on Chennai Super Kings’ rough start to IPL 2022. CSK, who entered this edition of the IPL as the defending champions, hasn’t had a good start with them losing all of their first three matches. There is also a change in leadership for the yellow franchise as Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced days before the start of IPL that he would be resigning from his captaincy duties and would now be handing it over to Ravindra Jadeja. It could also be this mental pressure that may have led Jadeja to do some things wrong, which ultimately led CSK to lose all of their matches so far.

Speaking on this matter to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that it is important for Jadeja to focus on himself and the team rather than concentrating on what the social media is talking about his captaincy, and about the team’s performance. He also added that this kind of thing actually works as he had seen with many former players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, and  MS Dhoni, who would not concentrate on what the outside world is saying when they are in a bad phase.

“My advice for Jadeja would be that these things will continue, don’t pay heed to them. If you think about that, you won’t be able to concentrate on the field because whenever you make a decision, you’ll continuously think, ‘What will they say? What will the fans think? What will the teammates think?’ You won’t be able to take the right decision through all that… Put your phone on Airplane Mode. No one gives newspapers during this COVID phase anyway, you can keep your TV off. So just stay in your room and enjoy. The more you’ll read and watch these things, the worse your mind will get. Whenever you want to update your social media, put the phone out of the Airplane mode and do that then put it back.”

“I have seen it with Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh – whenever they go through a tough phase, they don’t look at their mobile phone, TV, or newspaper. I feel he should practice, play video games and have fun.”

– Sehwag was quoted as saying.

It is important for Jadeja to take into consideration what the star batsman has said since his team is languishing at the bottom with zero wins, despite playing four matches. CSK had a bad start to the tournament when the Knight Riders beat them rather convincingly, They bounced back and produced some good cricket, but still ended up losing against the Lucknow Super Giants in a close encounter. Finally, they lost to the Punjab kings in a one-sided affair after CSK managed to get all out while chasing Punjab’s 180. Both the Captain and the management have to sit and discuss what’s wrong and need to change the combination according to that, in order for the team to be successful in the upcoming matches. Ravindra Jadeja’s side next meets the formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 12, which is to be played at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
