KKR bought Cameron Green for INR 25.20 crore.
Cameron Green created history by becoming the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. As expected, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for INR 25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Following his acquisition, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar talked about their plans while going for Green, who will serve as a batting all-rounder. He confirmed that the Australian all-rounder will bat in the top three and Sunil Narine won’t open next season.
Clearly, KKR have decided to leave the Narine opening experiment after the team failed massively last season. Narine’s weaknesses are well known now, and teams have been smart enough to target weak areas in his batting.

Their planning shows they want fresh ideas at the top, and the Knight Riders have gone for two explosive batters – Cameron Green and Finn Allen. Both are expected to start in the playing XI next season and form a crucial part in the top order, as KKR revamp their strategy.
There are multiple reasons why Cameron Green fits better in the top order, and the biggest reason is his ability to bash pacers with decent skills against spin. He always does well when he has a few balls to face in the top order, especially in the T20 format.
In IPL, he has 488 runs at an average of 40.66 and a strike rate of 157.92 in 14 innings, including two fifties and a century, while batting in the top three. In other batting positions, Green has 219 runs at an average of 43.80 and a strike rate of 145.03 in 14 innings, with no fifties.
Australia have also tried using Cameron Green in the top order because of his immense skills against pacers, for he can whack hard lengths and shield spin-hitters around him. At KKR, he fits nicely due to vacancy left after Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Quinton de Kock were released.
Allen can do the wicketkeeping duties, and KKR’s top three will likely be: Ajinkya Rahane, Finn Allen, and Cameron Green, with the likes of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, and Rovman Powell. Their batting unit is slowly shaping up well, even though they left out a lot of players before the auction.
