Fans have been waiting for a Josh Hazlewood injury update, but the latest news is not good for Australia or their supporters, as because of another injury he is set to miss the rest of the Ashes 2025 series.

Latest Josh Hazlewood Injury Update

Hazlewood first picked up a hamstring injury last month during a Sheffield Shield match for NSW against Victoria, which ruled him out of the first two Tests.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, he suffered another setback and was dealing with a low grade Achilles injury.

Australia coach Andrew McDonald said on Tuesday that the fast bowler will miss the whole Test summer and will now focus on getting fit for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup starting on February 7.

“Unfortunately, Josh won’t be a part of the Ashes. Really, really flat for him. A couple of setbacks that we didn’t see coming, and we thought he would play a huge part in the series,” Andrew McDonald said.

“It’s a totally separate injury. It’s somewhere lower in the calf to Achilles region. His preparation will then shift towards the World Cup, which is an incredibly important campaign for us, ” he added.

However, earlier according to the reports Hazlewood was expected to start bowling again. But now it has been confirmed that the pacer is ruled out for the entire series.

Injury Troubles Continue for Josh Hazlewood

Before this new injury came up, Hazlewood had already started bowling and was aiming to return for the third Test on December 17.

This is a worrying sign for Hazlewood because he has already missed several Tests this year due to injuries. During the 2024–25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, he missed three out of five matches, and later he also sat out the Test series in Sri Lanka.

Hazlewood has a strong record against England with 76 wickets in 18 matches, the most he has taken against any team.

Now he will be hoping to recover quickly before the T20 World Cup 2026 which begins in February.

Adding to Australia’s challenges, captain Pat Cummins was also unavailable for the first two Ashes Tests of 2025. However, the positive news for Australia is that although they have lost Hazlewood, their skipper is now back and is set to return to the playing eleven for the next Test.
