The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the Women’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) will commence next year. Tania Malik, the head of the women’s wing, made the announcement on Wednesday, March 2. Earlier, Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the PCB, also gave approval for the tournament.
The Women’s PSL was set to get under this year, but couldn’t take place as there was no window for the same. In the men’s PSL, Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, won the title for the first time. The team defeated the Multan Sultans, captained by Mohammad Rizwan, in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The men’s PSL has already witnessed six editions thus far after starting in 2016. It’s pertinent to note that, Raja talked about the Women’s PSL in his first meeting as the chairman.
Malik, in the meantime, wished the Pakistan Women’s team for the 2022 World Cup in New Zealand. The team, led by Bismah Maroof, defeated Bangladesh and New Zealand in the warm-up matches. The team will next be facing Mithali Raj’s India on March 6.
“Our team combination is good, and hopefully, the team can progress in the final four,” Malik was quoted as saying. Maroof has returned to lead the national team after embracing motherhood a few months ago.
To take women’s cricket forward, a T20 match will take place between Sindh and Southern Punjab on Friday, March 4. The game is set to take place as a part of Women’s Day celebrations.
“Since taking office, women’s cricket has been facing difficulties. Efforts are being made to take steps for the promotion of women’s cricket and women to come forward in every field,” she added.
Women’s PSL means the Pakistan audience will be able to watch the likes of Maroof, Javeria Khan, Nida Dar and quite a few of their stars in franchise cricket.
In the meantime, the Pakistan fans sounded excited by the announcement of the Women’s PSL. The netizens dropped in their excitement over the new tournament.

Wow! No matter how much you troll #PakistanCricket. They know how to run a cricket board. #PSL is one of the well designed leagues in the world. A women’s version is a welcome sign.
Will Indian Women take part in this??#CricketTwitter https://t.co/2ScPRpdzPB— Dhanush (Covering #CWC22) (@dhanush2k) March 2, 2022

It’s taken only 6 months since Ramiz Raja’s appointment for him to go ahead and actually announce the Women’s PSL. But it’s been years now since we hear about the start of the Women’s IPL.
