Australian wristspinner Alana King evoked the memories of watching the great Shane Warne operate at his peak days with a classic dismissal on Saturday (March 5), a day after the legendary cricketer’s untimely passing.
King paid a tribute to Warne by thumping on the black armband she was wearing on her non-bowling arm after the dismissal, dedicating her beautiful delivery and wicket to the man himself.
Fittingly, the breakthrough and the Warne-esque form of dismissal came against Australia’s arch-rivals England, whom Shane Warne terrified for the best part of his illustrious 15-year career in Tests and ODIs.

Shane Warne passed away aged 52 on March 4 after a suspect heart attack in Thailand.
The incident is from the Australian women’s team’s ICC World Cup 2022 opener against England at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Defending her team’s daunting total of 310/3, Kings unfurled her magic delivery against England opener Tammy Beaumont.
The beautiful drift and dip on the ball befooled Beaumont into playing an incorrect fronfoot stroke as she danced down the track only for the ball to turn sharply away from her outside edge and she was dismissed. It was a kind of dismissal that would’ve made Shane Warne grin.

The moment the dismissal came to light, fans lauded King for her classic delivery and also her heartening tribute to Shane Warne by double-tapping her hand on the shoulder and the black armband.
King went on to bag two more crucial wickets in her spell of 3 for 59 off her 10 overs, as Australia clinched the close fought World Cup encounter by 12 runs, restricting England women to 298/8 in their 50 overs.
