Usman Khawaja took a funny dig at Steve Smith’s tennis skills after beating him, as he claimed, 6-0 in a game during the ongoing tour of Pakistan. The elegant Australian opener also talked of how he finds it hilarious when the duo of Smith and Marnus Labuschagne start to have a go at each other as teammates during a game of tennis.

Speaking to the press on Saturday (March 19) from Lahore in the build-up to the third and final Test of the series against Pakistan, the left-hander revealed that Smith tends to come up with different excuses whenever he gets beaten in tennis.

Usman Khawaja also unveiled how the Smith-Labuschagne duo continues to get amusing and funnier on the tennis court, especially when they team up against him and end up losing or making some unintentional errors.

“I beat Marnus once in Adelaide. We’ve played one singles game. I smacked Smudge (Smith) 6-0. He tries to pretend like his shoulder is sore. He’s always got an excuse,” Khawaja funnily said during his pre-match press conference in Lahore.

“We have a lot of fun talking about seeds. Marnus reckons it’s me (at the top), him and Smudge. Smudge reckons…I don’t know what Smudge reckons. But he reckons, he is better than Marnus for sure.”

Khawaja said he has seen few things funnier off the field to what happens when Smith and Labuschagne are in the middle of an argument during a tennis court mishap.

“I love when Smudge and Marnus team up together. Honestly, nothing funnier than when those two start playing poorly together and they’re each other like, literally the big brother and little brother,” said the batter.

After two hard-fought and absorbing draws in Rawalpindi and Karachi, the Pat Cummins led Australians have made sure to make use of an extended break between the second and third Test. Apart from tennis, the touring contingent also played golf on an off day, the pictures of which were posted on players’ respective social media handles.

The third Test of the series played for the prestigious Benaud-Qadir Trophy will be played at the Gadaffi Stadium from Monday (March 21).
