Cricket broadcasting in India continues to hit a new low every passing day. The latest relates to Star Sports’ insensitive decision to continue with their analysis even as Indian Premier League (IPL) auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed unconscious in the middle of his job.
Edmeades fell in the middle of a bidding tussle that included allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga during Day 1 of the two-leg IPL 2022 mega auction in Bangalore on Saturday (February 12).
The incident took everyone by shock and left the fans extremely worried for the IPL auctioneer as his health certainly amounts for bigger than whatever takes place in the auction room. But it seems Star Sports didn’t care to think along those lines at all.

Broadcaster Star Sports showcased zero sensitivity to the medical condition of IPL auctioneer.
Even as the IPL auctioneer collapsed and the auction was suspended on medical grounds, the Star Sports panel continued with their auction analysis and showed an unacceptable level of sensitivity towards the more relevant matter.
There was no effort made to even properly acknowledge what had happened to Edmeades as Star Sports anchor Suhail Chandhok continued with the assessment of franchises’ picks along with experts Sanjay Manjrekar and Aakash Chopra.
This added fuel to the fire as far as fans were concerned and they unleashed their wrath on Star Sports over Twitter.
Here is how some of the fans reacted:
Baffling how @StarSportsIndia @DisneyPlusHS is not showing anything about the auctioneer who collapsed. Wtf guys!! They’re going on as if nothing happened and not providing any updates

Star Sports absolute disgrace no way they’re analyzing the teams even in such situation instead of cutting the feed for some moment

He collapsed when the camera wasn’t panned on him, there was a conscious effort to show him lying on the ground @StarSportsIndia have some shame ffs.

Why are the presenters laughing normally now? Give it a break man. Just take a break.

Man, at least acknowledge what happened on air before moving on no!? How can you guys go on as if nothing happened.

Amidst that, a news of relief came out about the IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades who, an IPL franchise representative confirmed, is doing better and is “stable” after being attended by the medical team. But when the mega auction resumes after break on IST 3:30 PM, experienced broadcaster Charu Sharma will be doing the auctioneer duties for the day.
