Mohammad Rizwan is generally known as a free-flowing batter, who stays busy in the crease. In the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, he is among the leading run-scorers. And on the back of his performances, the Sultans topped the points table in the league stage with nine wins from 10 games. But in the Qualifier on Wednesday, Rizwan strained against the Lahore Qalandars.

He opened the batting and could never get going. After being put in to bat first, the Sultans racked up a competitive score of 163 for the loss of two wickets in their 20 overs. Rizwan stayed not out and scored 53 runs off 51 balls with the help of only three fours. Most of the times, his strike-rate stayed below 100 as the Qalandars bowlers didn’t let him play his fancy strokes.

Rizwan tried to score on the leg side, but couldn’t fetch a slot of runs. The Qalandars bowlers also bowled to a plan against the in-form right-handed batter. After Shan Masood perished early to Mohammad Hafeez, Rizwan and Aamer Azmat put on 47 runs for the second wicket. Thereafter, Rizwan and Rilee Rossouw joined hands and the duo took the Sultans to a competitive score.

Azmat was the one, who injected momentum into the innings with a 22-ball knock of 33, laced with five fours. Rizwan and Rossouw put on 113 for the third wicket off 13.1 overs. Rossouw was the most attacking player in the partnership as he played at a strike rate of 154.76. The left-hander stayed unbeaten on 65 off 42 with the help of seven fours and one six.

Rizwan tried to innovate and play all the shots in his books, but to no avail. Hafeez was the pick of the Qalandars’ bowlers as he finished with figures of 4-0-16-1. Samit Patel got the other wicket of Azmat, stumped by Phil Salt, in the seventh over.
