Struck dangerously by a bouncer in the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Saturday (February 26), Ishan Kishan was reportedly taken for a precautionary CT scan at the Fortis Hospital in Dharamshala.

Wary of their player going down with concussion, the Indian team management made sure the wicketkeeper-batter got the necessary medical attention, including brief stay in ICU.

Kishan picked up the blow at the start of India’s run-chase in Dharamshala. Facing speedster Lahiru Kumara on the second ball of the third over in the Indian innings, the left-hander went down immediately following a blow to his helmet. An express quick, Kumara banged the ball in with brute pace at a shorter length and saw it hammer into the batter’s helmet.

Initially, Ishan Kishan seems to have told Kumara that he is fine while the bowler admirably made a point to check upon him. But soon, the Indian medical staff was at the ground as Kishan went on his crouches and felt dizzy.

And though the player resumed his innings and added runs to his and India’s kitty, he could never regain the focus and rhythm that was there before the blow to his head. Understandably, Kishan fell to a miscued flick for 16 to the mid-on fielder.

With concussion being a major point of attention in our game since Australian batter Phil Hughes’ untimely departure after playing a Sheffield Sheild game back in 2014, the Indian think-tank left nothing to fate and ensured Kishan was given necessary medical attention.

Senior PTI journalist Kushan Sarkar reported that the left-hand batter is doing “fine” now but is unlikely to play the third and final T20I on Sunday (February 27). India look set to bring in Mayank Agarwal at the top for the last game in Dharamshala.

Ishan Kishan will be a touch disappointed about his imminent absence from the final encounter, having just regained his flow and rhythm with the first T20I in Lucknow. The batter smashed a 56-ball 89 in India’s comprehensive victory after evident struggles versus pace and spin during the West Indies series.
