Afghanistan U-19 pulled off a famous win in the Super League Quarterfinals of the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (January 27). Facing Sri Lanka U-19 in Antigua with a place in the semi-finals at stake, the Afghans came out winners by just 4 runs in a thrill-a-minute low-scoring encounter.

The new Test entrants posted only 134 runs on the board for a fixture where the result seemed a formality at the halfway stage. But a spirited Afghan bowling performance reduced Sri Lanka to 43/7. And while a late recovery from the opposition brought things close, the Afghans eventually came out on top.

In a memorable finish, No.11 batter Treveen Mathew tried to bring set-batter Vinuja Ranpul on strike but ended up getting run-out. The moment the decision was declared on the giant screen, Afghanistan players kicked off their celebrations and out came their traditional ‘ATTAN’ move.
