A thorough look into the signings, team news and players availability of the Lahore Qalandars in the 2022 Pakistan Super League (PSL 7) along with a fantasy cheat sheet providing the fantasy potential of the Lahore Qalandars players.
Coach: Aaqib Javed
Captain: Shaheen Shah Afridi
PSL 6 Finish: Group Stage Exit

Lahore Qalandars remain the only franchise without a PSL title since the inception of the tournament. While they had a superb start to the season last year, they faltered around in the second half failing to secure a single win in the last four league games. Aaqib Javed continues as their head coach for the seventh consecutive season but there’s a change in captaincy as the 22 year old Shaheen Shah Afridi will take over the captaincy duties from Sohail Tanvir.

Ahead of the PSL 7 draft, Lahore Qalandars made eight retentions: Shaheen Afridi, Rashid Khan, D Wiese, Haris Rauf, M Hafeez, Sohail Akhtar, Zeesan Ashraf and Ahmed Daniyal. With a kick-ass bowling core, Qalandars went on to fill the remaining slots in the draft. The got back Fakhar Zaman as their first pick in the draft. They boosted their batting with the picks of P Salt, H Brook and A Shafique. They rounded off their bowling attack with the picks of Samit Patel and Zaman Khan.

The players who provide good value for their credits and can be banked upon for consistent returns.
Rashid Khan: No introductions are needed to describe him. He had picked 11 wickets from 8 games last year and will be available for the whole season this year.

Shaheen Afridi: A genuine wicket-taker, he picked up 16 wickets last season, the 3rd highest. He bowls predominantly in the Powerplay where he’s at his devastating best picking a wicket once every 17 balls.
The players who provide good value for their credits and can be banked upon for consistent returns.
Fakhar Zaman: He will mostly bat at No.3 this season especially after P Salt returns from the T20I series. He has been a consistent run-getter in PSL scoring 1351 runs at an average of 27.6. His recent form is good too.
Haris Rauf: He’s one of the best death bowlers in the tournament currently and he has picked 10 or more wickets in a season consistently since his debut.
Phil Salt: The aggressive English batter has been in terrific form recently scoring heavily in LPL and T10. He even recently cracked a 50 against Windies in his last game. His wicketkeeping adds value to his fantasy potential.
The players who carry an element of risk with them which may be due to bad form, injury, lack of game time, etc……
M Hafeez: He’s the sixth highest run-getter in PSL history but he averages only 15 in T20s in 2021. He’s likely to bat at No. for Lahore and with his weakness against spin it looks like a recipe for a bad season.
A player who looks like a good buy, but won’t score enough points to be of much use.
D Wiese: He was terrific in the T20 WC and provides value with both bat and ball. But with Qalandars having five genuine bowling options, he might not be required to bowl his full quota meaning there’s only value left with his batting which is unreliable for a lower middle-order batter.

S Patel: He might seem like a great all-round fantasy package but Qalandars haven’t generally used his batting well making him bat lower and as a finger-spinner he isn’t a genuine wicket-taker with the ball.
The players who provide decent enough value but is undervalued or is just not a well-known player.
A Shafique: He’s most likely to open the batting for Qalandars and he displayed some good form in the National T20 Cup.
The players whose credit values are less but still provide some decent value and so help balance out the lineup.
Zaman Khan: He’s the only pace bowler in the Emerging Player Category with the other two being wristspinners. He’ll play almost all matches and is a good option to have.
