Fortune Barishal skipper Shakib Al Hasan had a day to remember as his team defeated Khulna Tigers by six runs in the 2022 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on Monday, January 31. The Magura-born cricketer led from the front as he bagged the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance on the day.

The left-arm spinner bowled clinically as he finished with figures of 4-0-10-2 at an economy rate of 2.50. Prior to that, Shakib made a timely 27-ball 41, laced with two fours and three sixes, during Barishal’s innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. In the meantime, one of his shots gained a lot of footage.

In the fourth ball of the 14th over, Shakib smashed fast bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi for a massive six over the extra cover region. The speedster bowled a good length delivery outside the off-stump and Shakib threw his hands at it. The left hand came off his bat, but he got enough timing for the ball to sail over the boundary ropes. It was very similar to the one-handed sixes Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is known for hitting.

To his dismay, in the fifth ball of the same over, Rabbi got rid of the big fish. When Shakib got out, Barishal were placed at 103 for the loss of four wickets in 13.5 overs.

Shakib and Co. lost the early wickets of Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Towhid Hridoy inside the powerplay. But Shakib and Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 79-run stand for the fourth wicket brought Barishal back into the game.

Thereafter, the Tigers lost the early wickets of Andre Fletcher, Soumya Sarkar, Thisara Perera and Rony Talukdar in no time. But skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali Chowdhury’s unbeaten 34-ball 54 kept the Tigers in hunt for a win.
